Umukuru w’Igihugu yavuze ko ibigo bifasha abantu kwihangira imirimo bigiye kongererwa ubushobozi bwo gufasha abenegihugu muri rusange, no ku barokotse Jenoside by’umwihariko.

Youth during the holiday camp organised by Imbuto Foundation

Youth in the country have been urged to have discipline and self confidence if they want to succeed academically and have a brighter future.

The call was made by Radegonde Ndejuru, the Imbuto Foundation Director General while opening three- day annual holiday camp forover 500 youth supported by the Imbuto Foundation.

Radegonde stated that it isn’t enough to get scholarships for the youth but to also set time aside to counsel them and listen to their issues.

“We meet with these students every year to discuss issues that affect them, encourage them to work hard, stay focused and maximise their potential. We also want to give psycho social support especially to those who had dropped out of school for different reasons,” she said.

She said that every year, Imbuto Foundation supports 1,000 students who have good grades, are disciplined but can’t afford tuition. Imbuto Foundations helps find scholarships for these students.

Yvonne Mubirigi, the MTN Foundation Manager called upon the students to put a lot of effort in their studies adding that one achieve everything they dream of if they put all their effort.

She told them that the sky will be their limit if they remain focused on their studies.

MTN supports 100 of the students and has a budget of Rwf 90 million set aside to help offer scholarships for some of the children.

Cynthia Mutoni, a senior two student from Lycee de, Zaza, who is one of the beneficiaries of the scholarship noted that the holiday camp has so far taught her a lot that she may not have learnt from school.

“Different speakers have been teaching us many things and giving us counsel on a number of issues and life skills that we don’t learn from school. They have given me the zeal to work even harder in school,” she said.

She added that she hopes to get equipped with more core values and many other skills.

Rose Mary Mbabazi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth also urged the students to be result oriented, responsible and work towards excellence.

Several people walked away with cash prizes and trophies after the closure of districts youth competitions organised in line with next month’s silver jubilee celebrations of RPF-Inkotanyi.

The competitions featured singing, dance and sports among other things and Bugesera district emerged the best performer in sports walked away with a trophy.

Speaking at the event, district mayors present urged youth in their respective districts to love their country and push it to greater heights in development.

Mayors one by one, who addressed thousand of youths, drawn in sports competitions in preparation for the celebration of 25 years of RPF existence, echoed the importance of youth patriotism in developing the nation.

The Governor of the Province Odette Uwamariya, who presided over the function, told the youth to adopt a national patriotic awareness to better serve the nation with their scientific and technical knowledge.

The Governor said that the government was committed to ensure active participation of youth in the success of national reconstruction.

She said that the country’s development depended mainly on active youth, working with fundamental skills.

“I am happy that the sports competitions were successful…we look forward to beating the whole country. The bottom line however, is that we must use sports

to mobilise youth to be fully involved in developing the country,” she said.

Louis Rwagaju, the Mayor of Bugesera district that emerged the best performer in

sports, reiterated the need for developing patriotic values among the youth.

 “Young Rwandans must be more appreciative of their country and act like patriots. If we do not love the districts we come from there will be no prosperity in the country”.

“Youth should do voluntary community work, create jobs and not always want everything from the government. We need to wake-up and do things ourselves,” he told the jubilant youth.

Zacharia Mbonimana, 20, a high school students concurred with the Mayors that there can never be development when citizens are not patriotic.

“It is imperative for young people in the country learn to be patriotic, if social vices that the country was facing such as corruption were to be dealt with. As young people, we thus owe the society much in terms of development,” he said.

President Kagame and Ambassador Gasana

 Rwanda’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Eugene Richard Gasana was this morning sworn in as the State Minister in Charge of Cooperation, in a function that was held at the Parliament.

The event which was presided over by President Paul Kagame, took place a day after the Head of State exercised his power elevating the diplomat to minister.

Gasana assumes the position following Rwanda’s election as a member of the United Nations Security Council from 2013 to 2015, and he is supposed to remain in his duties at the UN headquarters in New York.

“The government in place in 1994 was busy killing people back in Rwanda and at the same time misleading the world because they were on the Security Council and this was not unknown to the world,” said the President.

Rwanda was a member of this council in 1994 at the time the Genocide against the Tutsi.

“Our new representatives should therefore bear in mind this kind of history while executing their duties of representing us, and this should inform what they should and what they should not do,” he said.

He said that this seat for two years should therefore serve the purpose of showing the world that this is a totally different country with a different vision.” This is a new Rwanda, doing new things.”

Speaking about the malicious lies against Rwanda concerning the situation in Congo, the head of state accused the International Community of deliberately ignoring evidence presented by Rwanda and instead chose to be driven by perception.

“The lies being told about us will never at any given time be turned into facts because they have been said many times,” he said adding; “We are not villains of the region and we will never be made villains.”

“This teaches us a lesson that in the world we live in, the evidence does not matter…but the perception because you can always create the perception that suits you.”

He said that perceptions will never at any time deter him and should not for that matter deter any Rwandan, from telling the truth.

“Where we will not be able to change things, we will speak up and the voice matters…we will never be what they want to be because they want us to, we will never accept to be led around like cow because we are not cows; we own cows.”

Eastern Region Police Spokesperson Supt. Benoit Nsengiyumva

Police in Nyagatare District is holding two people for allegedly assaulting their colleague to death.

The 41 and 29-year old men both of Matimba sector were arrested in connection with the murder of Protogene Nibishaka 28, who was found dead in the bush in Ntoma cell, also in Matimba Sector on Wednesday at about 11:00pm.

The duo is detained at Nyagatare Police station.

The cause of the tragic incident is suspected to be an argument the suspects had with the deceased in a bar where they were having a drink.

According to Police in Nyagatare, the suspects ambushed the deceased on his way home and beat him to death with clubs.

The Eastern Region Police Spokesperson, Supt. Benoit Nsengiyumva condemned the criminal act calling it “inhuman.”

“People should desist from things that lure them into such acts,” he said.

Most of the criminal acts recorded in the country, according to police, are caused by drug abuse like consumption of illicit brew and narcotics.

The Police chief advised Rwandans to provide timely information on misunderstandings before they escalate into violence for counselling and amicable settlement.

Assault or battery which results into death attracts ten to 15 years imprisonment under article 151 of the penal code. However, if an offender has committed such acts of violence with premeditation or ambush; he/she shall be liable to life imprisonment.

In a related development, police at Kanombe Police Station in Kicukiro District are holding three people for seriously assaulting their co-worker.

The suspects, all employees of Les soeurs du Bon Pasteur du Rwanda, an association of catholic nuns, are said to have assaulted Mathias Yumvuyahore on Wednesday night.
