Members of the Rwanda Patriotic Front hailing from Karongi District, together with a technical committee from the RPF secretariat, over the weekend held a meeting at the district headquarters to assess the district’s development.
The meeting, which, among other dignitaries, attracted MP Dr Ezekhias Rwabuhihi, who also hails from the district, was aimed at collectively looking at how the performance contracts (imihigo) of the just-concluded financial year were implemented, and set targets for this upcoming year.
The meeting also aimed at assessing how far the district party members have gone in preparing for the major event at which the RPF will this year celebrate its 25th anniversary.
During the meeting, the members were urged to work hard, and not be demoralized by rumors that are wrongly accusing Rwanda of supporting the armed rebellion in the Democratic Republic of Congo staged by a group of mutineers.
The same rumors were based on by some countries and international organizations to suspend the aid that they have been giving Rwanda, mainly though direct budget support.
‘The fact that Rwandans need this aid should not justify the act of treating us the way they want. I think RPF-Inkotanyi has a very big task of working with all Rwandans to show the international community that foreign aid is not all that we look up to,” said Rwabuhihi, who also heads the RPF technical steering committee for Karongi.
“We should all work very hard towards a time that we will not need the aid any more and to achieve this, we need to carefully choose the priorities in our performance contracts, priorities that champion socio-economic transformation of the people,” he said.
He said that through carefully selected projects, Rwandans will empowered economically and this is the only way we can do away with dependence on foreign aid, which he said, has always tied on conditions.
